There have been many attempts depict an honest look at real gay dynamics onscreen, and by “gay dynamics” I’m referring to hierarchical dynamics. Let’s be honest: Men define hierarchy, and homosexual attraction/desire plays a huge role even in straight male relationships and hierarchy.
But most of those attempts have fallen flat. Either they’re toothless (LOVE, SIMON or THE WAY HE LOOKS) or too weird (FOGI IS A BASTARD). BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN leap forward, but its story was too much about denial.
Now HBO has unleashed “Heated Rivalry”, a sizzling new series based on the book series Game Changers by Rachel Reid. The series is the creation of former child star Jacob Tierney, and follows the love story of two hockey players, a Russian named Ilya and an American bottom named Shane.
But it’s 2025 … gay shit is considered sexy now, so the series pushes the boundaries of graphic sex and serious role play. This is some of the hottest hierarchical flirting I’ve ever seen in a television show.
